7 Signs Witchcraft May Be Operating in Your Life (and 3 Signs It Isn't)
By Solomon White · October 13, 2026 · 8 min read
For years I did not have words for what was happening to my family. A marriage that came apart for no reason anyone could explain. Money that disappeared as fast as it came in. Doors that opened wide and then slammed shut at the very last step. I was a database professional. I trusted logic, numbers and evidence. None of my logic could explain the pattern.
So I did what desperate people do. I went looking for answers in the wrong places. A fortune teller read my coffee cup and gave the pattern a name: witchcraft. A family we had trusted for years, she said, had been working against my bloodline for a very long time.
I believed her. And what I did next nearly cost me my life. I will tell you about that below, because it is the most important part of this article.
First, let me say this plainly, as someone who has walked through fire: witchcraft is real. The Bible does not treat it as superstition. It treats it as a real power that God forbids His people to touch.
"There shall not be found among you any one ... that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits." Deuteronomy 18:10-11
But here is the other half of the truth, and it matters just as much: not every problem is witchcraft. Firing the wrong weapon at the wrong enemy is not faith. It is waste, and it is exactly what the enemy wants. So let us learn to tell the difference.
Seven signs that point to a spiritual attack
No single sign proves anything. What matters is the pattern: several of these together, repeating, resisting every normal solution.
1. The same wound runs through your bloodline
Your grandmother lost everything at forty. Your mother lost everything at forty. Now you are thirty-nine and watching the same shape form around you. When the same affliction repeats across generations, the same sickness, the same broken marriages, the same financial collapse at the same age, ask God whether something was dedicated, sworn or opened in your family line.
2. Everything works until the last step
The interview goes perfectly and the job goes to someone else. The contract is ready to sign and the deal evaporates overnight. The wedding is planned and the relationship collapses. Everyone has disappointments. But when every breakthrough dies at the final moment, again and again, for years, that is not bad luck. That is a pattern with an author.
3. The attacks get louder when you pray
This is one of the clearest signs. Things are quiet while you are spiritually asleep. The moment you start praying, fasting or stepping toward what God called you to do, the chaos multiplies: arguments erupt from nothing, the car breaks down, sickness flares. Darkness does not fight people who are no threat to it.
4. Sickness that comes in clusters and confuses the doctors
Symptoms that move around the body, test results that do not match the pain, illness that strikes several members of one household at once. My own heart was once functioning at ten percent, and my thyroid failed on top of it. Go to the doctor. Always. God works through doctors, and doctors stabilized me more than once. But when medicine can only manage what keeps returning, it is right to also take it to God in prayer.
5. Your nights are under attack
Waking at the same hour every night with dread in the room. Dreams of being chased, of eating food someone hands you, of losing your money, your shoes, your ID, your wedding ring. Heavy pressure on your chest as you fall asleep. Bad dreams alone mean little. Recurring dreams of loss, together with losses in waking life, mean a lot.
6. Hatred without a reason
A husband and wife who loved each other suddenly cannot stand to be in the same room, and neither can say why. Brothers who were close stop speaking over nothing. When division arrives suddenly, without a real cause, and grows faster than any argument could explain, look beyond the people. The Bible says our fight is not against flesh and blood.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12
7. A turning point you can name
Ask yourself honestly: when exactly did my life stop moving forward? For many people it is a specific moment. A gift that came into the house. A visit to a fortune teller, a medium, a "healer". An amulet you were given for protection. A ceremony you attended. A relationship that began. If you can name the day things changed, bring that day to God by name.
Three things that look like witchcraft but aren't
This is where honest believers have to be brave, because blaming witches is easier than looking in the mirror.
The flesh
Your own habits and sins. Anger you have never repented of. Laziness you call "waiting on God". A tongue you will not govern. The flesh does not need a demon to ruin a life. The cure is repentance, not deliverance.
Folly
Not sin, just unwisdom. A business with no accounting. Debt taken on without counsel. A friendship everyone can see is poison except you. If a wise outside observer could see the cause in five minutes, it is not a curse. The cure is counsel and doing the practical thing you have been avoiding.
The hand of God
Sometimes the pressure is a Father pruning a branch He loves. A door He closed on purpose. A wilderness season with a destination. The test: is this driving you toward God, humbling you, refining you? Then do not rebuke it. Endure it.
A word of care. Depression, anxiety, insomnia and physical illness are real medical conditions. If you are struggling with any of them, please see a doctor or a qualified counselor. Seeking medical help is not a lack of faith. Prayer and medicine are not enemies.
The mistake that nearly destroyed me
When the fortune teller named the family she said was behind our troubles, I did the worst thing a person can do. I answered witchcraft with witchcraft. I went looking for black magic of my own, determined to send the curses back.
I thought I was fighting back. In reality I was signing myself into the same contracts I wanted to break. What followed was a decade of Kabbalah, rituals, healers, energy work, an Islamic exorcist in Istanbul, a body that began to fail, and a night when I was coughing blood onto the floor of my room.
Here is what I learned at the cost of almost everything: darkness cannot cast out darkness. Every system I tried gave me short-term relief and long-term bondage. Only one Name has the authority to cancel a contract with hell.
"And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Colossians 2:15
The way out
If you recognized your life in the signs above, do not panic and do not run to anyone who offers to "remove" it for a fee. Go to Jesus. This is the order that works:
- Close the doors. Ask God to show you every open door: sin you are holding, bitterness you are feeding, every fortune teller, amulet, reading or ritual you or your family ever touched. Repent of each one specifically, not vaguely.
- Renounce every covenant out loud. Agreements in the spirit are made with words, and they are broken with words, backed by the blood of Jesus.
- Forgive. Even the people who did this. Forgiveness is not saying it was small. It is releasing them to God so their evil stops living in you.
- Stand on the blood and the Name. Christ became a curse for you so that no curse has legal ground over a life surrendered to Him.
- Do not walk alone. Find a Bible-believing church and a mature believer who will pray with you.
"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us." Galatians 3:13
Pray this now
Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You. I confess every sin I know and every door I opened, knowingly or unknowingly. I renounce every fortune teller, every amulet, every ritual and every agreement with darkness made by me or by my bloodline. I forgive those who worked against me, and I release them to You. By Your blood, cancel every contract, every curse and every assignment against my life, my body, my family and my future. I belong to You alone. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen.
If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, this is where freedom begins. Not with a ritual, not with a technique, but with a Person.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9
I am living proof that He still sets captives free. If this article described your life, send me a prayer request below. You are not alone, and you are not too far gone.
